Spring 2013 SI sessions finished for the semester. Good luck with finals!
Supplemental Instruction is not offered during the summer.
For Fall 2013, SI sessions will begin Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013. To help us determine the best days, times, and locations for SI sessions, please fill out the scheduling surveys promoted in class and via e-mail during the first week. Visit our schedule of SI sessions to see which courses will have SI.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an internationally recognized academic support program offering free, regularly scheduled study sessions for traditionally difficult courses. SI sessions are facilitated by SI Leaders, who are undergraduate students who have previously taken the course and demonstrated academic competency in the subject area. Each SI Leader facilitates at least three 50-minute sessions per week using collaborative learning methods. Attend once or attend every session...the choice is up to you, but our data suggests that the more you attend, the higher your final grade will be in the course.
We recommend attending SI at least once per week.
SI is a free, voluntary opportunity for all students enrolled in a course. Students who participate in SI will:
Is my session canceled due to weather? SI is definitely canceled if classes are canceled according to the University homepage; however, please check your SI Leader's website for an announcement if you are unsure. It's possible your SI Leader may be unable, due to weather, to get to campus, and s/he will have posted the announcement online.
Apply to be an SI Leader for Fall 2013! For more information and the application, please go to our website describing the SI position.
Help us plan SI for the Fall 2013 semester! Planning documents are posted online here.
The SI Leader staff consists of current ISU students who have previously enrolled in courses they lead, or have completed related coursework. All Leaders are supervised by trained professional staff members in the Academic Success Center. SI Leaders facilitate and encourage group learning of course material, rather than acting as authority figures who lecture to participants.
